Over the past two decades, Lightspeed has backed more than 200 companies, many of which have become leaders in their respective industries. We are currently investing out of Lightspeed IX, a $675 million fund focused on early and expansion stage investments in the consumer, enterprise technology and cleantech markets. Our team invests in the U.S. and internationally, with investment professionals and advisors in Silicon Valley, India, Israel, and China with Lightspeed China Partners.

Lightspeed has invested in direct and cross-border Indian companies since 2004, and has an Indian advisory team with offices in New Delhi.  Our India portfolio is listed here.

Lightspeed invests across stages and sectors in India, with investment sizes in the range of $2 million to $25 million. Our principal interest is to provide growth- or early-stage capital to talented entrepreneurs and management who seek to disrupt or transform large markets in the domestic economy. We invest in technology-led businesses as well as in non-technology opportunities in sectors such as advertising and media, business services, financial services, healthcare, education and retail.

Growth stage: Lightspeed typically invests $10 million to $25 million depending on the capital needs of the business and the liquidity needs of the promoters. Growth capital is provided to support activities that drive significant value creation prior to an IPO or other liquidity event, such as expansion into new regions, launch of new products or execution of an inorganic growth strategy. Growth equity can also be used to enhance working capital during periods of hyper growth and/or to provide liquidity to promoters or shareholders who wish to diversify their financial exposure while still managing the business. In addition to providing capital, we lend our collective experience of having been involved with over 15 IPOs to prepare our growth companies for public offerings.

Early stage: Lightspeed invests $2 million to $10 million depending on the stage of the business. Early-stage capital is used to fund product development, build out management teams and hit critical operating and proof of concept milestones. Early-stage businesses often require multiple rounds of financing, and Lightspeed typically invests additional capital in subsequent rounds in addition to helping our Companies secure financing from new investors.

As a global venture and growth capital firm investing out of a single fund, Lightspeed is well positioned to combine local knowledge and relationships with deep domain and sector expertise to support our portfolio companies in India.
